M&F bags Stiefel acne account

Munro & Forster Communications has won an acne treatment account following a four-way pitch.

Stiefel Laboratories, an independent pharma company specialising in dermatology, has hired the agency on a two-pronged UK med ed and PR brief.

The work covers the whole of Stiefel’s acne porfolio, which comprises several skin treatment products. One product is Duac – a twice-a-day topical combination gel which combines an antibio­tic with benzoyl peroxide, which kills acne-causing bacteria. Duac is licensed for mild and moderate acne. As well as teenage sufferers, the prescription-only product is used to treat adults in whom the condition persists.

Nikki Rance, Stiefel’s senior brand manager for ethical brands, oversees the work for the client.

She was not available for comment, but in a statement she claimed that M&F’s ‘fresh approach and astute strategic thinking’ were among the reasons for the hire. However, neither party would reveal the specifics of the campaign.

Stiefel is based in Florida and operates in 38 countries. Its UK operation is the largest dermatology company in the country. It is thought that medical professionals will be among the agency’s key target groups.

Associate director Fiona Cheetham will lead the agency’s account team, reporting to Rance. Last September Stiefel hired Huntsworth Health to promote Oilatum,  an OTC treatment for itchy scalp conditions.
