French food group Danone has bid £8.3bn for Dutch baby-food maker Royal Numico, which is famous for the Cow & Gate and Milupa brands.
The two firms released a joint statement saying they have reached a preliminary agreement.
M:Communications has been brought in by the Dutch firm to work on the deal after a competitive pitch. The account is being led by M: founder Hugh Morrison and consultant Louise Tingstrom.
Danone will be using internal PR resources.
The deal comes a week after Danone confirmed it was in talks with food giant Kraft Foods about selling its biscuits brands, including TUC.
