The new role will see Charles reporting in to MD Leesa Peters and heading a team of three. He will be in charge of current clients Victoria Oil and Gas and Empyrean Energy.
His appointment signifies Conduit’s new focus on oil and gas. The agency believes that the skills it has honed in the mining industry can be transferred to clients in these sectors.
Charles was the spokesman for Shell’s Gas & Power and Shipping division for nine months. He resigned the position in January and started his new role this month.
Prior to taking the position at Shell, he was a financial and energy journalist, working at a number of B2B titles including Mergermarket. He has also been a corporate reporter at energy publication Weekly Petroleum Argus and financial editor at Real Deals, the European private equity publication.
Conduit PR recently brought in Charlie Geller, formerly at WMC Communications, to head up its Technology, Media and Telecoms division (PRWeek, 20 April). It also hired former Tavistock Communications associate director Christian Taylor-Wilkinson as senior consultant (PRWeek, 24 Nov).
The agency was set up four years ago and specialises in small- and mid-cap companies that are listed in London.
Conduit PR has a total team of 12 and more than 40 clients.
