Vicki Martin will join the international team as associate director. Currently an account director at Ketchum, she will concentrate on Axon’s work for Roche, which includes hepatitis drug Pegasys. She will also across the agency’s NovoNordisk portfolio of existing and pipeline diabetes products.
‘We have brought her in to add extra PR strength. New business development will also be part of her remit,’ said Axon managing partner Ralph Sutton. The agency has expanded in size – the appointments bring Axon’s headcount to 32 – and more hires are expected. ‘We’re bringing in a layer of associate directors,’ said Sutton.
Martin will report to acting head of international PR Laura Musgrove. The permanent head, Jo Filshie, is currently on maternity leave.
Meanwhile, Reghu Venkatesian has been brought in as editorial director, a post which runs across Axon’s med comms and PR functions. He joins from a similar role at Remedica Medical Education & Publishing and will have two main roles.
The first is to build a strong editorial and medical writing capability within the agency. The editorial team currently consists mainly of a freelance network. Sutton said: ‘He will be adding a far greater bench strength than we’ve had in the past. We do have writers on staff, but want to build a dedicated writing team.’
Venkatesian’s second task will be to act as a quality controller for writing across the whole business. ‘He will establish an editorial style and ensure that the quality of writing and materials we deliver to clients are of a high quality,’ said Sutton.
