The 20-strong division will be headed by Pat Pearson, who had been with Ruder Finn for nine years, working as head of UK healthcare and most recently as European innovation director. Prior to that, Pearson was a media adviser for then health minister Alan Milburn.
Linking up with Pearson will be Paul Gittins – another of Ruder Finn’s senior healthcare PROs. He joins Red as divisional director after two years at Ruder Finn.
He was most recently an associate director and previously worked for Manning Selvage & Lee and Red Door Communications.
Both are set to join early next month, with Pearson reporting directly to Red Consultancy MD Amanda Duncan.
Duncan said: ‘We have carried out healthcare work for a number of years, mainly relating to public information and consumer work. There was a lot of work that we didn’t feel we could go for because we didn’t have the expertise, particularly in terms of stakeholder relations, so that’s why we decided to strengthen the team and create Red Health.’
New recruits Pearson and Gittins will initially work closely with existing healthcare clients of Red, which include the pharmaceutical companies Schering, Eli Lilly, Wyeth and GSK.
