Raggett to take over at Lexis PR

Lexis Public Relations CEO Hugh Birley is to take a back seat from 1 August, when operations director Margot Raggett will take over as CEO.

Birley will become chairman, working four days a week. He said he would be pursuing non-PR related ‘business interests with friends’ on the remaining working day, as well as ‘possibly a bit of fishing.’

‘This is the right time to make the change – while I still have energy to concentrate on assignments for the business, such as creative projects.’

Birley became CEO in 2002, when he led a management buyout from founders Bill Jones and Tim Adams. Raggett, one of four other directors who bought the agency, became operations director (PRWeek, 20 April 2002).

Lexis – which now has 100 staff - is majority owned by Next Fifteen Communications. Birley is the next largest shareholder, a position he said would not change with the new role.

Prior to that, Birley was a director at Scope Communications, which was sold to Ketchum in 1996, and Sara Pearson Associates.

He is also a former head of press and PR at Phonogram Records.

Raggett joined Lexis in 1993 as a graduate trainee.
