FD helps to seal Newcastle deal

Newcastle United’s prospective buyer Mike Ashley used FD as he snapped up 41.6 per cent of the club last week.

The City PR firm helped Ashley to smooth over a possible takeover of the Premiership club ahead of expected talks with Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd.

Earlier this year, Ashley became a billionaire after listing his Sports Direct company, which includes the Sports World and Lillywhites high street stores. Since the listing, the company has seen shares slide and it recently sacked its agency Tulchan.

Sports Direct looks set to unveil Finsbury as its retained agency after the agency took part in a shoot-out against Citgate and Bell Pottinger Corporate & Financial.
