South Tyneside consults to gain

Communications and consultation policy areas are now intrinsically linked, South Tyneside Council head of corporate comms Lynda Fothergill told the LGCommunications conference.

The authority has had record numbers of people attending its consultation events. Fothergill highlighted the importance of using employees as brand champions, using an example of a previous campaign.

‘Using employees to illustrate what you have achieved is the use of substance not spin,’ she said.

‘We summarised what people wanted and what we did about it. Employees are the most credible people to carry your messages because they tend to be your harshest critics.’
