Phipps snaps up Rioja wine brief

The body responsible for promoting Rioja has handed out a lucrative contract to publicise the Spanish wine classification.

The Rioja Regulatory Council has appointed Phipps PR for a brief believed to be worth £250,000 in fees.

Phipps MD Nicky Forrest said ‘Rioja is investing more money in its priority markets – UK, US and Germany. The UK makes up just over a third of all export sales, and is the largest export market for Rioja wines.’

The incumbent – wine specialist Spear Communications – resigned the account after six years.

Spear MD Sue Glasgow said the budget had increased so much that the consultancy did not have the staff to manage the account.
