Lobbying guide for MPs' staff

MPs' staff have been provided with a six-point guide to working with lobbyists.

The guide, ‘Working with lobbyists: a view from the dark side', has been posted on w4mp.org - the website for MPs' employees.

They are advised to be direct with lobbyists; to hear them out; to ‘use them as a resource'; to ‘let them make your life easier' and report anything untoward to the APPC; and to ‘keep a scrupulous record of anything of monetary value a public affairs professional pays for or gives to you'.

It concludes that most lobbyists are committed to following ‘transparent and ethical procedures' and to maintaining ‘mutually beneficial relationships with MPs and their staff'.

The guide is the brainchild of the w4mp editor Dick Robinson and has been written by Katie Fuller, a former MP's assistant, now a lobbyist at Quintus Public Affairs.
