Hit or Miss... Pilot trouble

The Government fluffed the announcement of new sex offender disclosure pilot schemes, unveiled this weekend. Sunday's News of The World reported parents would be able to find out how many sex offenders lived on their street. But the headlines prompted a barrage of criticism from child protection agencies, which the Governments failed to nip in the bud. Only home secretary John Reid surprised everybody by revealing the pilots would involve allowing single mothers or carers to ask only about individuals trying to forge a relationship with them.
