Letter - Whelan takes poor ethics for granted

How depressing to read Charlie Whelan (PRWeek, 30 March) boasting about one of his 'favourite tales' which involved leaking a fake memo to the BBC. This 'complete parcel of rubbish' then made it on to the Today programme - grossly misleading the public as a result.

And how ironic that your leader on the opposite page lamented: 'Too often PR is dismissed as a fluffy and dishonest part of working life... ' What sort of example do Charlie Whelan's methods set to the younger generation in the business and is it any wonder that politics and PR are often held in such low regard? The spinners among us have much to account for.
