Letter - No 'must' in PR when it comes to degrees

While I don't disagree with Mark Ramsdale - 'PR degrees should be a recruitment must' (Letters, 30 March) - we must not overlook potentially outstanding recruits just because they can't tick the PR qualification box. Most of the best practitioners I come across have fallen into the industry from another other role before discovering their communications flair. I have also encountered several who have PR qualifications but sadly just don't get it (by 'getting it', I mean having intuition, people skills and the ability to put oneself in another's shoes). So yes - let's have more education and professional development in the industry. But a PR degree or diploma doesn't necessarily a communicator make.
