2 MINUTES WITH: Tim Hulse, editor, Business Life

Business Life, the British Airways in-flight title, re-launched this month with redesigned sections.

What does the magazine cover?
Business Life is a popular business magazine, which aims to appeal to a broad cross-section of passengers on BA domestic and shorthaul routes. Its core belief is that business should never be boring. Hence we cover mainly lifestyle subjects such as sport, fashion and music, but from a business point of view.

What changes have you made? We’ve completely revamped the back of the magazine to make an expanded European business travel section. The European Flyer section aims to be the most useful and least flabby guide to the region around. All pieces in our designated sections on hotels, spas, restaurants, property and golf are linked to BA short-haul destinations.

Any other changes?
At the front of the magazine we’ve introduced a media column by Brunswick partner and ex-FT media editor Tim Burt as well as occasional columns on subjects such as sport, art and entertainment. The cover now has a more newsy feel. We are also moving to a monthly frequency – previously we published ten times a year.

What stories are you interested in?
We’re interested in stories with a broad appeal. Therefore we’re far more interested in talking to Ant and Dec about their business careers than we are in talking to the CEOs of ball-bearing companies, no matter how successful they may be.

What can PROs do to help you?
Stop leaving long messages on my voicemail for a start. And have a look at the magazine so you know what sort of stuff we cover. I know it’s only available on flights, but we’re always happy to send out sample copies.
