Edelman healthcare team grows

Edelman has beefed up its London-based healthcare team with four hires.

The agency has brought in two account directors - one from Resolute Communications and another from Ketchum. It has also appointed an account manager from Chandler Chicco Agency and hired a new assistant account executive.

New account directors Julia Kirby and Catherine Pannell will both lead new business. ‘They will work on organic growth and new business wins,' said Mike Kan, Edelman MD of Health.

Kirby previously spent four years at Resolute, where she worked on global, European and UK accounts - for company clients including Shire, Janssen Cilag, Lilly and Roche.

Pannell joins from Ketchum, where her clients included GSK, Novartis, Roche and Pfizer. Meanwhile account manager Jake Davis has been hired from CCA. The trio have experience across a variety of disease areas.

The fourth new member of staff is assistant account executive Jill Barone, who was previously at university in New York.

Kan suggested that the practice wanted to expand into other areas of healthcare. ‘We have a therapeutic vacancy.

Respiratory is definitely an area that we would like to be in,' he said. But he denied the new arrivals, which bring the London health team to 50, had been brought in to lead a push into this area.

The healthcare team has been expanding regularly since Kan took over the role 18 months ago.

Recent high profile hires in the company include former Hill & Knowlton managing director of medical comms David Noble, who joined last year as head of BioScience International, Edelman's medical comms offering (PRWeek, 5 October 2006).
