Opinion: Letter - PR degrees should be a recruitment must

Kirsty O'Connor's letter ('Forget English grads and hire PR students', 23 March) expresses an opinion that has been long-felt by PR graduates.

PR is a strategic business function and requires a skills set that non-PR degrees simply do not provide.

The CIPR approves degree courses based on their ability to equip students with the necessary training to operate as effective PR professionals.

Graduates from these courses show a real commitment to their chosen profession. They also hit the ground running when they start their PR careers and, because their training gives them a real insight into what it's like to work in PR, are less likely leave the industry.
