Ofwat puts focus on sustainability

Water regulator Ofwat is to beef up its comms arm by appointing a head of media and sustainable development.

The newly created role will focus on challenging water companies to show robust evidence of sustainable development.

The postholder will also be charged with promoting sustainable development internally.

The head of media and sustainable development will also handle customer and media expectations for water and sewerage services. The water industry has gained a significant public profile over the past year, partly due to the drought in the South East.

The incumbent will report to director of comms Fiona Pethick, who has been with Ofwat since 1989 and was promoted to this post in 2005 (PRWeek, 19 March 2005).

Ofwat was given responsibilities in the area of sustainable development in the Water Act 2003.
