YouTube 'killer' to seek comms aid

The 'YouTube killer' planĀned by two US networks is set to hunt for PR support.

Fox and NBC Universal are ‘very likely' to look for extensive comms support for the planned video-sharing website.

NBC corporate comms director Julie Summersgill told PRWeek a search for PR support would begin once a management team for the unnamed service is in place.

The news could herald a global scramble as agencies make efforts to represent the companies involved. AOL, Yahoo and MSN have all signed up to the project, which will be funded by advertising and is a bid to sidestep the copyright troubles YouTube is facing.

This month YouTube became the subject of a £550m copyright infringement lawsuit by Viacom.
