Munsell defects from Orbis to join NGO colleges

International education NGO United World Colleges (UWC) has poached Orbis head of comms Megan Munsell for its top PR position.

Munsell joins the UK-based UWC in early May, and will be responsible for putting a global PR strategy together that will ramp up the charity's profile across 125 regions.

‘We have focused more on communicating with our 33,000 global members,' said executive director Keith Clark. ‘Now we can draw on Megan's global experience with Orbis and become more proactive in our communications and PR.'

Her first task would be to conduct an audit of UWC's communications.

Munsell's hire ends an 18-month period for UWC without a top communicator. Previous head of comms Lucy Cole elected not to return from maternity leave, and comms co-ordinator Nancy Owen covered in the interim.

Munsell's departure from Orbis coincides with that of fundraising head Shimon Jordan, who announced she would not be returning from maternity leave.

The international eyecare NGO has now decided to combine both roles and is on the hunt for a director of comms and fundraising.

Last October Orbis took on Teachers' TV comms co-ordinator Hugo Coelho as its first comms manager (PRWeek, 6 October 2006).
