The bookseller, the second largest in the US, owns the Books etc and Borders UK stores.
‘Even though it is a US announcement it has big ramifications in the UK,' said consultant Susanna Voyle, who heads the account. ‘We have to co-ordinate press expectations here with what is happening in the US.'
She described the account as a ‘project' and emphasised that no decision on a sell-off had been made. She reports to US-based Borders corporate affairs director Anne Roman.
