Planning think-tank nets Henderson for top post

The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has unveiled a new communications chief.

Kate Henderson joins the think-tank as comms manager next week from Good Relations' Property and Planning division.

Her brief is to make the most of the TCPA's role in planning for more environmentally friendly and sustainable communities.

She replaces Kirsten Gogan, who left the TCPA earlier this year to become head of PR at Futerra Sustainability Communications (PRWeek, 23 November 2006).

Henderson will sit on the TCPA's senior management team, with responsibility for positioning the group as a thought leader on climate change, sustainable housing and renewable energy.

She said her speciality is ‘the green side of planning', and that she aims to focus on climate-change issues to get planning pushed up the political agenda.

Henderson has spent the past 18 months at Good Relations, working on the agency's portfolio of sustainability, regeneration and renewable energy clients.

‘I've been working on lobbying briefs for biofuel producers and helping renewable energy suppliers get planning permission for wind-farm sites,' she said. ‘This new role gives me a chance to do more work on central government lobbying campaigns.'

She reports to TCPA chief executive Gideon Amos.

The not-for-profit body is dedicated to improving the ‘art and science' of town planning. It focuses on social justice and the environment.
