Travel site Kayak tenders for Euro launch account

One of the US's leading online 'travel supermarkets' has put a European brief up for grabs.

Kayak hired The Red Consultancy for the UK beta launch of its website at the end of last year, but has now decided to seek other agencies as it prepares to expand.

Kayak's V-P of comms Kellie Pelletier said: ‘We need to continue the momentum of the soft launch in the consumer technology and travel sectors. We also need to introduce the site to consumer and travel media.'

Pelletier is on the hunt for PR agencies with consumer travel and tech credentials and experience of launching products in European markets.

The budget for the first 12 months of the account is likely to exceed £120,000. Kayak said it could increase spend as it moves into new territories.

Kayak will launch in France and Germany in mid-April, and has plans to expand the website into other countries later in the year. Hotel and car rental search engines will follow.

The company was created in 2005 by the founders of bookings portals Orbitz, Travelocity and Expedia. It is a travel search engine, rather than a retailer.

In the US, has been named ‘Best of the Web' by BusinessWeek and, and ‘Best Travel Search Engine' by the Associated Press. It has also featured in Time magazine's ‘50 Coolest Websites' chart.

Red confirmed that it was pitching for the account.
