Suffolk in waste disposal review

Suffolk County Council is on the hunt for an agency to advise on its waste strategy.

The contract, which could run for up to three years, includes telling residents about the county's refuse disposal problems.

Head of comms Francis Thomas said: ‘We are projected to run out of landfill space in a few years' time, and even though we are a beacon council for our waste services, we need to improve recycling.'

The council will consult residents on the potentially controversial introduction of waste management methods, such as incineration.

‘Public awareness and understanding of this project will be a key marker in its success,' said Thomas. ‘PR is an investment given the potential EU penalties for the excess use of landfill.'

The winning agency will report to Thomas.
