The move will see two comms staff and three marketing advisers transferred from separate service departments to the council's corporate comms unit.
Two marketing posts will be axed in the restructure, but the authority is planning to appoint an extra PR staffer. Head of comms Rob Yeldham said: ‘By pooling comms staff in a central unit we will ensure messages are consistent and that we have more flexibility in how we use people.'
Lewisham's comms team covers strategic advice, media relations, events, publications, online comms and public affairs.
The latest move follows a series of reorganisations at Lewisham that started in 2005, spurred by a ‘best value' review.
Lewisham's service-specific marketing posts in areas such as community education are not affected by the rejig.
The reorganisation is intended to come into effect from next month, and staff views are currently being consulted.
