Accenture reviews PA ahead of NHS contract bid

Accenture, the world's biggest technology consultancy, is on the hunt for a new PA agency.

It is understood to be in talks with agencies including Edelman, Weber Shandwick and Bell Pottinger.

Accenture brought in Hill & Knowlton for PA work in 2005 - the first time it had hired a PA firm (PRWeek, 19 August 2005).

H&K was unable to confirm if it has lost the account or if the new brief is separate.

The agency's head of corporate affairs, Andy Pharoah, was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press.

Accenture did not comment.

The technology consultancy has been attempting to strengthen its reputation in government circles for the past two years. It is understood to be keen to expand on its work for the NHS.

It holds contracts related to the National Programme for IT to make patient records available electronically.

Accenture analyst Luciana Berger recently left to head PA at the NHS Confederation (PRWeek, 26 October 2006).
