Haringey consults over car charges

Haringey Council is consulting residents over proposals to implement controversial parking permit charges.

The extended consultation started on 1 March and will run for six weeks. Consultations typically last for three weeks.

During this period, information will be disseminated to residents through three avenues: notices and articles in the press and council magazine Haringey People; leaflets in existing and proposed Controlled Parking Zones and in community centres; and publicity at ‘area assemblies'.

Proposals are for permit prices on a sliding scale, with drivers charged according to their car's emission levels. The less environmentally friendly the car, the higher the charge.

Cllr Brian Haley, executive member for environment and consultation, said: ‘An extended consultation will give local people as much opportunity as possible to express their opinions.'
