Procter takes senior Staffordshire comms post

Staffordshire County Council has brought in freelancer Jenny Procter as head of comms and marketing forits Children and Lifelong Learning Directorate.

Leading a team of six, Procter reports to head of directorate management support services Martyn Reed. She replaces Robert Parker, who joined the Information Commissioner's Office as comms planning manager last year (PRWeek, 20 October 2006). The ICO is responsible for implementing Freedom of Information legislation and the Data Protection Act.

Priorities for Procter include reviewing Staffordshire's internal comms in the directorate, which includes services for schools, libraries, museums and vulnerable children.

The directorate employs 20,000 people, two-thirds of the council's workforce. ‘We will be looking at developing the intranet and using other tools to improve internal comms given the scale of the department,' said Procter.

Head of comms Jacquie McKinley remains in her post, providing corporate support across the council.

Staffordshire recently received an ‘improving adequately' rating by local government watchdog the Audit Commission.
