Barnsley puts regen brief up for grabs

Barnsley Borough Council is seeking an agency to promote its flagship regeneration project.

The agency will be responsible for developing and implementing a marketing and PR strategy for the Civic and Mandela Gardens - an £11m project aimed at transforming the town centre.

Known locally as the Civic, the development will revamp Barnsley's cultural hub, as well as provide residential, leisure and retail space.

The former Civic Theatre will be transformed into the Barnsley Design Centre, with exhibition space for contemporary art.

The Civic and Mandela Gardens will be managed by a board of eight trustees, the Barnsley Civic Enterprise Trust. The trust has responsibility for the marketing of the Civic.

Barnsley's PR function is led by former Warrington Council head of comms Bob Williams (PRWeek, 15 February).

The comms contract up for grabs, which spans one year, is worth around £45,000.
