Local Government Association programme director, media and campaigns, Edward Welsh is fed up with hearing council comms staff moan that 'media are only interested in negative stories'.
In his video clip for PRWeek, Welsh says that when he was a journalist, he did not care if a story was good or bad, he often just needed something to fill the page.
He argues that in most newspapers, around six to seven out of ten stories are positive. But for public sector stories, he says about seven out of ten are negative.
Welsh argues that public sector PROs should work together to ensure there are more positive stories showing that council staff are the ‘unsung heroes of everyday life’ who ‘help people and improve their lives’.
