Brewer split with GS 'unrelated to move'

When it announced the relocation of its HQ from Cardiff to London a fortnight ago (PRWeek, 26 Jan), Golley Slater was keen to stress it was in no way 'turning its back' on the city and regional PR scene.

So it was intriguing to find out this week that Cardiff brewer SA Brain & Co - a brand so keen to promote its Welshness that it sponsors the national rugby team - has ended its ten-year relationship with the agency. The firm has instead hired sports marketing agency ENS.

Surely the marketing brains at Brains haven't got the hump about the agency's relocation?

The company's head of marketing Stuart Dobson says the decision 'reflects how the business is growing and expanding throughout the UK' - and flatly rejects Diary's mischievous line of enquiry.

Likewise, Golley Slater chief executive Chris Lovell insists that Brains' decision to repitch the business was made last year - before anyone could have been aware of his agency's plans.

Maybe we owe you a pint then, Chris.
