Vishnee Sauntoo has joined as comms manager with a remit to bring more ‘strategic’ input to the group’s communications.
She reports to NSD chief executive Ben Youdan, who said the charity was determined to make the most of the opportunity provided by the new legislation. A GfK NOP poll commissioned by the charity last year found 2.8 million UK smokers who said the smoking ban would be a catalyst for them to try and quit.
Sauntoo’s first task is to plan for NSD’s 24th No Smoking Day on 14 March. This year’s ‘make a fresh start’ awareness day will highlight the new laws. The campaign will also target employers who want to start the process of making their workplaces smokefree before the legislation takes effect on 1 July.
‘My role is a strategic one, looking at how we can be more proactive in our media relations,’ said Sauntoo.
Although the title of campaign manager has been used by NSD before, the role was previously geared towards day-to-day press and marketing work.
Sauntoo previously spent four-and-a-half years at IVF regulator the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, where she latterly held the position of press officer.
