AMRO man exits for Cognito

ABN AMRO has lost its global markets head of marketing and comms to agency Cognito.

Carsten Huwendiek joins the 25-strong financial services firm as UK MD, in a move that sees founder Tom Coombes shift to a programme development role.

Clients that Huwendiek will advise include JP­Morgan, London Stock Exchange and ABN AMRO.

‘I know just how valuable external expertise in marketing and communications can be,’ said Huwendiek.

Cognito head of business services Claire Kittow said Huwendiek will be responsible for managing the expansion of the agency’s business on the Continent, as well as establishing a larger client roster in the UK.

Prior to ABN AMRO, Huw­endiek held senior comms roles at UBS Asset Management.

At ABN AMRO he was most recently a member of the company’s communications board.

The Dutch bank sponsors Volvo Ocean racing vessels and the Ajax Amsterdam football kit. Last year it made headlines for signing former England and Chelsea FC footballer Graeme Le Saux as ambassador for its Sports Desk, the division that handles the bank’s activity in the sector.

Last year, life sciences specialist Northbank Communications won a contract with ABN AMRO to promote its private-equity life-sciences business (PRWeek, 28 September 2006).
