Brunswick Group opts to register with DIFC

Brunswick Group, one of the UK's most prominent PR firms, has become the first dedicated financial communications agency to register at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

The group is currently advising Dubai International Capital on its acquisition of Liverpool Football Club, and has also represented DIFX-listed Gold Fields, Kingdom Hotel Investments and Hikma Pharmaceuticals.

Brunswick's Dubai operation will focus on local IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and issue management.

Rupert Young heads the office, while Anthony Harris, the former British Ambassador to the UAE, will work on a consultancy basis. Headhunting for a small team of account managers is under way.

Brunswick's registration at the DIFC rather than at Dubai Media City comes at a time of emerging competition between global players in corporate PR.

"We do financial communications, so it makes sense to be near the financial and investment community,' said Young.

"We position ourselves as critical communications advisers, addressing the challenges that companies face.

"I suspect that this will be the beginning of a presence in the Middle East that will continue to grow," added Young.

"We're very keen to try to win some local business."

Brunswick is one of several prominent financial PR companies including Buchanan and Capital MS&L that has moved to UAE in the last few months. They join more established firms such as Financial Dynamics, which has been in the region for four years after opening an office in Bahrain.
