Advertising planning guru defects to PR sector

Andy Bellass, strategy director at top advertising agency Mother, has resigned to join consumer PR firm Splendid Communications.

Bellass, who spent eight years at Mother and is a former board planning director at TBWA and GGT, has taken a director role at the London agency.

He has a brief to expand Splendid’s offering into a broader range of comms.

He said he had left the advertising world for a PR agency in order to create ‘communications ideas that engage people on a physical level and are able to reach beyond the confines of paid-for media’.

He cited ‘new forms of digital software’ and revamping shops’ layouts – with PR used to ‘amplify’ those ideas – as examples of what he hoped to work on at Splendid.

At Splendid – which was founded in 2003 – he will be running the business alongside MD and founder Alec Samways and PR director Kathryn Pringle.

Samways said the fact Bellass has ‘left a top job with one of the world’s best creative agencies to further his career beyond advertising’ was ‘both a huge compliment to Splendid and a sign of the changing nature of the marketing industry’.

Clients for which Bellass worked at Mother include Coca-Cola, SAB Miller, Orange, Amnesty, Super Noodles and Pot Noodle.

Bellass said: ‘Working for Mother has been an incredible experience. I shall miss it dearly.’

Splendid clients include Marmite, Peperami, the Lawn Tennis Association and Smirnoff.
