Yoxall quits the music world for aid charity CARE

CARE International has drafted in British Music Rights' former top PRO as its head of comms.

Henri Yoxall has joined on a nine-month contract to lead the department after head of comms Fiona Turnbull went on maternity leave at the end of last year.

Yoxall said her priority was to raise the development charity’s profile. She left her general manager and head of comms role at BMR at the end of last year.

The BMR is an umbrella body whose four members – the British Academy of Composers & Songwriters, the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society, the Music Publishers Association, and the Performing Right Society – represent more than 50,000 songwriters and publishers.

It lobbies on issues such as protection of intellectual property rights.

Of her move, Yoxall said she wanted to work in the development field.

‘I have gone from champagne excess to water scarcity,’ she said. ‘Working in development is a real eye-opener after the music industry.’

She has not yet been replaced at the BMR.

Earlier this month CARE hit the headlines when it demanded safe passage from the Somalian government for its aid workers to reach refugees displaced by fighting in the country.
