Surfers to help in skin cancer fight

KILLING Cancer is to use professional surfers and skiers in a 12-month campaign to warn young people about the dangers of skin cancer.

Charity director David Longman said that the first phase would focus on winter sun – which can harm skin that has lost layers of melanin during the winter – as people head off for skiing holidays.

The second phase will target young people by using surfers to endorse skin cancer awareness messages.

Longman is planning a UK tour featuring surfers riding wave machines in various cities, and said heintends to recruit celebrities who have experienced skin cancer.

KILLING Cancer, which promotes the use of photodynamic therapy – a combination of light and drugs - is looking for sponsors and media partners for the tour.
