Surgeons' body in comms chief first

The professional body for surgeons has recruited its first director of comms.

Alison Cook will join the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS) at the end of next month, stepping into a role that will make her the top spokesperson for the profession.

She is currently head of policy comms, health and treatment, at the Department of Health.

The college created the role last year after identifying a need for a director-level PR professional.

The RCS last month promoted comms manager Mel Woodnick to the interim post of acting head of comms as it looked to prepare the ground for Cook’s arrival.

It is not known if a replacement has been found for Cook at the DoH. She was unavailable for comment.
