Lincoln Uni in corporate move

The University of Lincoln has poached Kingston University head of marketing and comms Gillian Squires to be its first director of corporate affairs.

Overseeing two yet-to-be appointed staff, Squires takes up a role reporting to the university’s vice-chancellor professor David Chiddick.

The university created the director of corporate affairs position after the departure of a brace of senior staff. Former vice-chancellor Brian Winston – who oversaw corporate affairs – retired in September, and director of marketing Ian Cairns joined Loughborough University this month.

In addition, last September the university lost press and media relations manager Jez Ashberry and press officer Kate Strawson.

Ashberry and Strawson left to set up Shooting Star PR – which the university now retains.

Last year, all universities were given the go-ahead to charge up to £3,000 a year in top-up fees.

The variable pricing has made the higher education market significantly more competitive. Squires’ brief will include communicating the university’s own fee rate.

Lincoln University has had various guises since the 1800s, but the main campus is just ten years old.

In 2005 the university won the East Midlands Regeneration Award from English Partnerships for developing its £75m Brayford Pool campus in Lincoln.

Squires was unavailable for comment.
