Freuds' Thykier to leave PR for films

Freud Communications vice-chairman Kris Thykier is leaving after 15 years for a career in film production.

Thykier leads Freuds’ entertainment and film division and is widely seen as chairman Matthew Freud’s right-hand man.

He will become a producer at MARV Films, where he will partner long-standing Freuds client producer and director Matthew Vaughn.

MARV’s credits include 2004 British thriller Layer Cake and romantic fantasy Stardust, to be released this year. Vaughn was also a producer of 2000 film Snatch and 1998’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, both of which were directed by Guy Ritchie – a friend of Thykier.

Vaughn is married to supermodel Claudia Schiffer, former Freuds client.

Thykier – no stranger to publicity as he is married to TV presenter Claudia Winkleman – will leave at the end of February. Staff were told of his plans this week.

Freud director Nicola Howson said Thykier would not be replaced as the agency already had a ‘strong management team’.

Howson added that as well as becoming a non-exec director at the agency, Thykier would be a potential future client.
