Bankside aids B'Sea PS deal

The new owner of Battersea Power Station sought the counsel of two PR agencies to secure the £400m deal last week.

Real Estate Opportunities - the investment trust controlled by Irish entrepreneurs Richard Barrett and John Ronan - used London-based Bankside Consultants and Dublin's Murray Consultants.

REO acquired the derelict Grade II-listed structure and surrounding land from Hong Kong businessman Victor Hwang's Oriental Property Limited, which owns developer Parkview.

REO has assumed the estimated £2bn cost of redeveloping the power station and surrounding area, which has been disused since 1982.

Parkview corporate communications director Ian Rumgay worked for Oriental Property on the deal.

Bankside is now REO's retained City agency. Agency partner Simon Rothschild headed the acquisition team.

Parkview only recently brought in Edelman sister firm Zeno to handle corporate reputation management and public affairs for the development (PRWeek, 28 September).
