Let's meet at Christopher's

Reviewed by Shimon Cohen, chairman of The PR Office.

I've been coming to this Covent Garden classic for years. Regulars are seated in the small dining room with fabulous views of Waterloo Bridge, and one can often see cabinet ministers, newspaper editors and even a princess or two happily dining.

The welcome at Christopher's is always warm. Smiling, friendly staff point you to the grand staircase and, as you make your way up, operatic arias accompany you to the top where you're seated. Drinks and olives follow almost immediately. That's the thing about Christopher's, they know you are in for a business lunch and ensure that the service flows efficiently without feeling rushed.

My favourite starter is the Garden Salad - a big bowl of fresh leaves, herbs, asparagus and artichoke hearts; but on a cold day, the smoked tomato soup is a real winner. Main courses for meat-eaters are legendary, and for fish-eaters there are plenty of choices, too. Halibut in a herb crust or classic Dover sole are among my favourites, and the salmon fishcakes are unbeatable.

Christopher's wine list has an emphasis on America, with some very interesting and quaffable choices.

Espresso or fresh mint tea round off a splendid lunch or dinner for around £70 for two including service.
