Capper will join the influential membership organisation on 4 January after a year-and-a-half at service company Serco, where he is group head of media and PR. He has previously held comms roles at the Healthcare Commission and Department for Trade and Industry.
Capper will become London First's first permanent PR head since the departure of Julia Lalla-Maharajh in February owing to ill health. He will report directly to CEO Baroness Jo Valentine.
Robin Hepburn, the MD of financial PR consultancy Waughton, has been acting in the role for the past few months. He will relinquish the position at the year's end.
Freelancing in the role before him was Ceri Evans, the former Strategic Rail Authority comms director. Capper will oversee a team of five covering PR, PA and events.
‘The challenge is to maintain the city's pre-eminence in the champions' league of world cities, and not only to lobby for improved investment but to encourage businesses to work with political and social bodies for the common good of the city,' he told PRWeek.
The group, which represents more than 300 members, will seek to influence the Government's Spending Review next year to direct more funding to London.Serco is hunting for a replacement.
