Oxfam plans hire to promote consumer/int'l work

Oxfam is to bring in a deputy head of media to help it expand consumer comms and international campaigns.

The charity's head of media Sam Barratt said the role - dissolved after he was promoted in April last year - has been revived to extend the media team's work overseas.

‘We want to do more in places such as Brazil and India, but also in France and Germany, and another senior member of the team is crucial to that,' he said.

The postholder will help oversee Oxfam's 16-strong media function, including its five-strong celebrity team. Barratt said the new hire would be in place by the beginning of 2007 and one of the first tasks would be to investigate rich countries' aid budgets ahead of next June's G8 summit in Germany.

Oxfam uses Munro & Forster and Band & Brown for ‘I'm in', Shine for its Unwrapped catalogue and Lloyd Northover for trade PR.
