CIPR consults on new-media guide

The CIPR is preparing to consult the industry about best-practice guidelines for so-called 'social media'.

The guidelines will cover blogs, wikis and podcasts.

‘With new communications channels come not only old issues in a new form but a raft of best-practice issues,' said CIPR director-general Colin Farrington.

Provisional recommendations can be downloaded from president Tony Bradley's blog - - from 23 November until 31 December as part of a consultation process.

The document will then be passed to the body's Professional Practice Committee for approval, and will come into effect early next year.

Farrington caused some consternation in the blogging community earlier this year by playing down their significance in the CIPR's magazine, Profile (PRWeek, 29 Sep). Bradley launched his blog in the summer (PRWeek, 23 June).
