Hit or miss - Sainsbury's bags coverage
Sainsbury's led the charge of supermarkets offering vouchers and donations for customers who lost out after the demise of Christmas hamper firm Farepak. The pledge followed the collapse of a proposed industry-wide response spearheaded by the British Retail Consortium. John Lewis, Tesco, Marks & Spencer and Morrisons all followed suit. On Wednesday, HBOS - banker to Farepak's parent company European Home Retail - pledged £2m. Max Clifford Associates had worked hard to highlight the affected families' plight.
