He takes up the post in early December, reporting to Jonathan Hawker, managing director at FD's 17-strong issues management practice. Findell joins fellow vice-president Alex Shepherd, who, it has emerged, joined two months ago from Cohn & Wolfe.
FD set up the issues management division three years ago. Hawker arrived to lead the practice 18 months ago after selling his consultancy Partner PR to the firm. ‘We help any organisation facing attack,' said Hawker, adding that it undertook a ‘combination of media relations and political work'.
Findell has played a central role servicing the public affairs needs of WS clients Nestlé, Multiplex and the Learning and Skills Council. He worked on overturning student union bans on selling Nestlé products on campuses, following the marketing of powdered baby milk in the developing world.
Findell joined WS in January 2000 as an account executive. WS managing director of corporate and public affairs Michael Prescott described his departure as a ‘sad loss', adding that it was already recruiting to replace him.
