CIPR director-general Colin Farrington said: ‘As PR people, we should be more outspoken in terms
of defending freedom of speech. The less regulation, the better - to encourage creativity, originality and transparency.'
Farrington had a letter published in The Times last week outlining the CIPR's view, which supports the Government and Ofcom's stance. He described the EC's proposals as ‘ill-thought-through', adding: ‘The growth in broadcasting over the web is not only inevitable but increases the options for freely expressing views that fall
outside the mainstream.'
