Sanders joins from fellow animal welfare charity International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), where she was comms manager for four years. She has taken charge of a four-strong UK team and a two-strong European team at CIWF, and plans to expand the latter to four.
She said: ‘Many of the farm-animal welfare issues we work on are decided on at EU level, so I will be looking to expand our European team and work closely with other animal welfare charities in continental Europe.'
CIWF's current main campaign focus is on chicken welfare and the transport of live farm animals.
Sanders said her work would be a mixture of public-facing campaigns and lobbying.
It is planning to add further weight to its comms function with the hire of a head of media and a director of campaigns, media and programmes. Both are new roles - Sanders and the head of media will report to the director.
The charity has been searching for all three positions since July.
Sanders' former role at IFAW has been filled by Rosa Hill, who was promoted from press officer.
