Jennifer Erickson, senior director of global PR for Motorola, said Motorola wants fewer firms in an effort to streamline its messages internationally.
The RFP was intended to find "long-term agency partners to assist us in building awareness and context... across our business units and product lines to audiences worldwide."
Motorola works with several firms, such as Hill & Knowlton in the US and other markets, JCPR Edelman in the UK, Ogilvy in Asia, and The Fish Can Sing for PR and buzz marketing.
The RFP went out within the last week. Erickson declined to say how many firms Motorola contacted. The timeline for choosing an agency is November.
In other news, Tracey Thiele, communications marketing manager at Unilever, has joined Motorola as manager of North American PR for the mobile-devices division.
