The former Time & Fortune international comms director will join in November from her interim consultant role at Lloyds TSB.
Jacobs will take over the job relinquished by Joanna Manning-Cooper, who quit to join the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (PRWeek, 13 July). Reporting to FT CEO John Ridding, Jacobs will also work with recently appointed FT Group CEO Rona Fairhead, plus FT editor Lionel Barber.
She will lead a team of four, and will work closely with PROs in the US and the Asia-Pacific region.
The FT confirmed plans to shed 50 posts from its editorial ranks in July to cut costs and bring closer collaboration between its print and online operations.
Prior to Time & Fortune, (PRWeek, 9 Dec 2005), Jacobs worked at Freud Communications. She is a former journalist, having been assignment editor for CNBC Europe and editor of The Investor magazine.
